This is an 8 Reales Silver Dollar or "Pillar Dollar" minted under the reign of Charles III of Spain and produced at the colonial post of Potosi in Bolivia. There are a few aspects that make this coin very special. First is the date - 1776. These 8 Reale coins were the first silver dollars to circulate and be universally accepted as money in the newly birthed nation of the United States of America. The 8 Reales or "Pillar" dollar is even featured in the primary text of US numismatics - The Red Book! The second special aspect of this coin are the initials of the assayer "JR" - which is quite tougher to find than the other assayer "PR." Third, this is the single top pop at PCGS! Fourth, are the lustrous, semi-PL surfaces. Lastly is the very cool re-punching of the 6 in the date. This coin is very well-struck and should be perfect for a high-end collector of 8 Reales!
